Public transportation involves both, magnetic and RFID technology. Smart tickets combine the advantages of paper tickets and contactless chip cards. Low material costs (paper instead of PVC etc.) provide much lower unit costs, while offering all the benefits of RFID technology: fast, convenient, and secure data transfer without contact.

Naturally, RFID tickets can be printed in the same way as conventional paper tickets. They also can be post-printed by a thermal printer in the same way as regular paper tickets.
